The municipality is situated at the northern end of Murcia's Mediterranean coastline, the Costa Calida, and borders with the province of Alicante.

Located at the northern end of the Mar Menor, its name comes from a small church the fishermen dedicated to San Pedro in an area of pine trees. With its agricultural and fishing character, it has busy tourist activity in Lo Pagan, where its mud baths are particularly famous and good for your health. Its history stretches back to the Roman era, from which remains of houses have been discovered and during which the exploitation of the salt flats of Coterillo was begun; salt flats which are still working today. These wetlands were formed with the dunes and the beach of La Llana, which is the oldest of the Regional parks of Murcia, and which is a refuge for over one hundred bird species, among which the flamingo is worthy of particular mention. Besides the park, where it is possible to observe the fauna and flora as well as unique constructions such as the salt mills, it is also worth paying a visit to stately homes such as the Casa del Reloj, which was home to the death of Emilio Castelar, the Palace of Villar de Felices, the Ethnographical Archaeological Museum and the Fish Market.

Facing the tranquil waters of Mar Menor, San Pedro del Pinatar is one of the main tourist destinations on the Murcia coast. Traditionally a seafaring and agricultural centre, San Pedro del Pinatar has become one of the principal tourist towns on Murcia's Costa Calida.

Next to the long promenade facing the Mar Menor are extensive beaches such as La Puntica or Villananitos. This watery setting, combined with the facilities at its marina, means you can do a great many sports, such as sailing, scuba diving or windsurfing.

Murcia has just over 170 km of coastline: coves and small beaches alternate with rocky shores and sheer, craggy cliffs. As a geographical accident of nature we find La Manga, a coastal strip of land which, bar a few connecting channels, or narrows, completely closes off the Mar Menor lagoon from the Mediterranean. The Murcian littoral offers on the one hand unprotected shores with wild seas and on the other small coves with calm, placid waters. Sand-dunes, beaches, salt-water lagoons, mud-flats: the Murcia coastline includes numerous places of unquestionable interest to the naturalist.

San Pedro del Pinatar Fantastic Semidetached Villas SPSNB1057
